Electrical Product Safety is Essential

When you buy anything electrical, safety is paramount. You’ll commonly see the UL label on just about anything you plug in – just take a look at your toaster or hair dryer the next time you use it.

Similar to residential products, commercial and industrial electrical products also have UL labels to indicate product certification. UL stands for Underwriters Laboratories, a company with a mission of “working for a safer world” since 1894.

As the largest nationally recognized testing laboratory, UL provides certification and testing programs that ensure safety and quality. Many electrical inspectors and jurisdictions look for the UL certification as part of their inspections.  Without UL listing, inspectors may be hesitant to sign-off on a panel, which may require obtaining a letter from a certified electrical professional engineer. As a result, having a UL label on your panel may end up saving time at the inspection.
